A down-on-his luck frontman of a metal band named Chaz (Brendan Fraser) tries to get his band The Lone Rangers (bassist played by Steve Buschemi and drummer played by Adam Sandler - told you we'd be seeing him again real soon) played on an LA radio station. They break into the radio station, and things escalate quickly. The band ends up holding the entire radio station hostage at gun point. Little do the hostages know that the Lone Rangers are armed with squirt guns that only look like real Uzis.
There are so many famous people in this movie! Apart from the three leads, Michael McKean is the station owner, Judd Nelson is the record executive that turns Chaz down for a deal, Ernie Hudson in his favorite role of veteran police officer, Chris Farley is the rookie cop, Joe Mantegna is the radio DJ, David Arquette is a stoner that works at the station, Michael Richards who spends the entire movie pretending to be in "Die Hard", and ample cameos from the likes of Kurt Loder, Rob Zombie, Harold Ramis, Mike Judge, and the legendary Lemmy.
I love this movie. It is just plain fun.You don't need to be a fan of the music to enjoy it, but it definitely helps. There are a few jokes made that make far more sense if you know who the bands are and some of their history. Check this movie out if you haven't seen it. This also spawned one of my favorite jokes: "Who would win in a fight: Lemmy or God? Trick question, Lemmy is God!"
Just for fun, I've decided to include a list of a bunch of the rock bands that I caught that is either mentioned or played during the course of the movie.
Rock Bands Mentioned or Played:
- Motorhead
- Tommy Lee
- Jimmy Hendrix
- Anthrax
- White Zombie
- 4 Non Blonds
- Van Halen
- The Beatles
- Led Zeppelin (Moby Dick is mentioned. The way it is brought up, implies the song)
- The Ramones
- Sting
- Ozzy Osborne
- Candlebox (real odd choice for this movie, by the way)
- Vince Neil
- Guns N Roses
