"Darkness Falls" (2003)

Unfortunately we're not just reviewing the music video by Killswitch Engage. We're reviewing something much, much worse.

Don't believe anything written on this movie case. The quote holds no truth, and I have no idea what the hell that tagline is trying to say.

In the vein of many movies around the turn of this last century, "Darkness Falls" takes a famous tale, turns it into an absurd urban legend, then shoves it up its own ass. Also in the vein of many movies around the turn of this last century, it is unsuccessful and is pretty forgettable.

The tooth fairy wears a porcelain mask because when she was alive she had such light sensitive skin she couldn't go outside even at night without damaging her skin. When she was killed, her spirit became evil and she kept the mask. If anyone sees her, she will pursue them relentlessly in an attempt to kill them. A boy named Kyle sees her one night, and his mother is killed. Jump to twelve years later, and he has somehow managed to survive 12 years without ever being in the darkness, and is hopped up on numerous drugs. His childhood sweetheart's (Caitlin) little brother Michael now seems to be going through many of the same things Kyle did, so Caitlin enlists Kyle's help to Michael.

"Darkness Falls" is bad. The acting is bad. The story is full of numerous plotholes. The scares are awful and predictable. The story is predictable. Every single character is a walking stereotype. It's boring, and simply makes no sense.

Don't waste your time. The premise could have been cool, had someone taken their time with it and actually written a decent plot. Unfortunately, it suffered from the same plot issue that "The Darkest Hour" suffered from - a twelve year old wrote the plot and a grown up didn't adjust it to make sense.
